Mysterious `Morgellons disease' prompts US investigation
Article Abstract:
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which began investigating Morgellons disease in June 2006, plans to first define the disease with a set of criteria that distinguishes it from other illnesses, though most dermatologists deny that such a disease exists. Randy Wymore, assistant professor of pharmacology at Oklahoma State University has found out said that Morgellons patients have masses of dark fibers visible at X60 magnification under the unbroken skin, while unaffected individuals do not have this phenomenon.

A new antibiotic-resistant and virulent form of Staphylococcus aureus has surfaced in significant numbers in cities across the US increasing concerns regarding the limited options for treatment. This new strain has a 'cassette' of genes that bestows resistance and that, at less than 24 kilobases, is more compact than those seen in resistant hospital strains.
